Well organised, professional tour. We were picked up from our hotel in Hanoi by a luxury van and taken to the depot in Halong Bay where all the tours leave from. It seemed rather chaotic but actually is very efficient. We arrived at our boat, Dragon Legend, and I was impressed by the space and layout. There are plenty of decks and outdoor spaces to relax and a salt water hot tub. Though the boat was fully booked, with so many spaces and such a good layout, we didn’t feel crowded or like we lacked privacy ever. After a welcome drink and briefing by our tour leader, Kenny (what a character!!), we were given keys to our cabins.
On opening the door to our room, I was blown away. The space, view, decor and luxurious appointment exceeded my expectations. Huge Windows in the bedroom and next to the soaker tub in the bathroom let in loads of light and promised to frame views of the bays beautifully.
We opted for the 2 night cruise and I’m very glad we did. Once we set off, the rock formations were stunning. By going for longer, we were treated to more of the exceptional scenery and taken to a less crowded area where IndoChina junk is one of the only companies allowed. Sometimes, we were the only ship in view.
The activities on board were excellent. We kayaked twice, hiked up to a cave to explore, enjoyed time on a beach after a bbq lunch, squid fished off the back of the boat and visited a floating village and pearl farm. Our family had plenty to keep us occupied but did not feel rushed or too thinly stretched.
The food on board was excellent. The chef took great pride in preparing tasty Vietnamese fare for guests and whilst we didn’t have any specific requirements, those who did were catered for. Drinks are on the pricey side but cocktails and mocktails are delicious and freshly prepared with care.
Staff on board were professional and attentive without being overbearing. They learned our names and were so friendly and helpful. Of particular note are Yuen (Daniel) who made us feel so welcome, our tour leaders Kenny and Andy who were personable, informative and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs and spending time with the guests and Jellyfish who really made our boys’ time on board memorable.
I would highly recommend this cruise. We had such a memorable trip and the scenery is stunning. Whilst there is a fair bit of rubbish in the water, companies like IndoChina are trying to do there part in cleaning it up.
Would I go again? In a heartbeat!
