We took the 2 night/3 day option on Prince 3 and from my initial enquiry, was dealt with so professionally. The admin staff at the office, the captain and crew on the boat, the van drivers and Duc, the tour guide were simply fantastic and could not have been friendlier or made our trip any more pleasurable. The itinerary was well planned, not too long at any one place, plenty time to ask questions and find out more and time to relax. The food was fantastic – so much of it!! Beers always cold, margaritas just perfect. There were 6 of us on the boat and all similar so got on really well. We asked our guide about tipping as we wanted to tip the crew and him and weren’t sure of the protocol. We left a total of $60 dollars ($20 per couple) for the captain and crew, and $30 for the guide ($10 per couple). They looked genuinely surprised and delighted when we gave it to them, so I’m not sure that it is ‘expected’ as mentioned in another review. The water puppet show on the way home was charming, and it would have been nice to see more of the village and speak to the locals, but it was a bit ‘herded in/herded out’. Lastly, our wallet containing our passports fell out of our bag as we left the boat, unknowingly to us, until the office phoned our driver to let us know. We needed them that evening, but as all the tour buses had now left Halong, that could be tricky. However, the staff at Halong took it to the local bus station and put it on the bus to Hanoi, where it was met by staff there, and brought to our hotel by Ha’s friend. He refused a cash ‘thank you’ from us and simply asked for a photo of us with the wallet, to show Ha, and asked us to review Indochina Junk on Tripadvisor. So here you are! My expectations were exceeded and they went above and beyond their call of duty to get our passports to us. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Thank you.
